Stories

Missives written this time of year are frequently about the things for which we are thankful.  And why not?  As we round the corner toward the new year, it seems fitting we pause for a moment to reflect on what we have and to recognize our good fortune.  With luck, it will inform our planning for the coming year (yes, it’s time to do that again.).  I hope my goals for 2020 will be mostly other-centric but I recognize that even those goals (contribute to making a healthier planet) benefit me as well.  I would like to recognize one group of people I get to spend time with for the good work they do.  I won’t mention them by name for fear of missing someone, but I hope they will see themselves in this description.  I am fortunate to be surrounded by people who farm with the intention of regeneration; not just to do no harm, but to use their farming to make things better.  Many, but not all, farm using Biodynamic practices as we do.  They think about the impact of their decisions on the release of carbon and its sequestration, as well as about growing food (and wine) that is as healthy as they can make it. Most of them do this work far better than I do and  if I am attentive I learn from them.  They are my teachers, and for that I am grateful.
